Finding it hard to get into the Christmas Spirit. I have only shopped for a friend. The kids all have lists as long as their arms and I find it hard to scrape up the energy, let alone the desire to fight crowds and lines with a stroller in tow…Back in the old days, the twins would be in school, babygirl 1 in daycare and I had either my 2 days off or an hour before they got home off the bus to sneak out and shop a little here and there.
Now, everything they want is only an upgrade of what they have…P.S. 3 of course, but it has not come to Europe yet due to production problems… I say stick with Playstation 2 and the games will get cheaper…you can pretend the graphics are better after you see Pong, the original video game. I remember there were paddles on each side of the screen and it was like tennis, back and forth. My first video game was Galleaga or soomething like that…I would play that thing till my eyes crossed.
The split embryo wants new MP3/radio/camera/telephones. This particular model is available for $49.95 from Amazon. Here in Sweden, it costs $451.00 in US dollars…or 3,100kronor…Multiply that by 2. They both need new bikes. A Target special for $100-150 would be just the ticket. Dirt bike, 360 handlebars etc…´Cept here they cost almost $500 bucks or better….multiply that times 2. Don’t forget the Triple Goose down parka/ non ass warming jacket ALL of their friends have! That only costs a mere 3,000 kroner… ( or almost again, 450 bucks…).
Maybe I can convert everyone to another religion that dosen’t celebrate the birth of the savior with the exchanging of gifts.

Don’t hate me – all my gift shopping is done. Most of it for the adults I bought online. My husband has the Atari 2600 that he played with when he was small (yep. He’s just a kid!). It still works and on our 57″ TV it looks ridiculous. Our girls LOVE to play, so we keep it!
Lines for PS3 were made in tents here in the states. Three days camping to then spend $700? No thanks!

I actually just have 3 girls–McKenna, Delaney, and Sydney, but half the time we call Sydney “Scout.” My dh has called her that since birth and we call her both names pretty regularly! I went back and read that post and it was sorta confusing!!!!
Well, we didn’t take your West Virginia coach after all. He decided to stay at WVA, so rest easy about that . . . lol! (Now, we’ve got to find another coach. We’re starting to get worried about it!)
I LOVED your post for today. It’s crazy what sort of money we have to spend on our kids these days! Thank goodness none of our girls asked for any of the expensive game systems. One is getting a portable DVD player, the other a digital camera, and then lots of just other smaller stuff!

so true, everything is double price up here in Scandinavia. We also buy most of the stuff online (our laptop, digital camera, CDs, DVDs, and books…. etc…) But this Christmas, both my family and BH’s family are all getting together for Christmas, so buying presents for everyone would bankrupt us all. So we are each buying one present (unisex…. fit for all) and then we attach a number to it. Whoever picks that number gets that present and that is it my friends. 😉 I totally agree with your last statement. Christmas shopping craze is a marketing gimmick above all.

For us, it’s definitely about the simpler things! My dh still wants to keep buying more and more for our girls (he’s a pushover for them), but I set a limit and we never buy them the sort of stuff that a lot of the other kids get. It’s really ridiculous how much some kids get!
We also have to budget a lot better. We live basically on one salary; I do some freelance writing and scrapbooking stuff, but I stay at home with the kids and when we decided that I would do that, we sacrificed a lot!! Some days it’s hard,but in the long run it’s very important.
As a Christian, I get very upset about the over-commercialization of something that is supposed to be simple and meaningful. So we try and get down to the “basics” with our kids and make sure they understand the meaning behind everything.
Love making new friends–now I have one in Sweden!!!

Not only are the prices there crazy, but my friend from Sweden says their standards of gift giving are also crazy. Well, I hope you’ve lead your husband/friends/kids to the right stores on e-bay so they can buy you some outrageously expensive gifts too! 😉

I do just about all my shopping online. Yeah, it means I have to think about Christmas in October/November but that’s ok because I’m done now, just about. Just have to get my mom’s birthday present (poor woman’s b’day is 2 days after Christmas). She wants bacon. I know, sounds odd – but they just moved and you can’t get the kind of bacon she likes here. So, I’m paying more for the shipping than for the bacon but, if she wants bacon, she’ll get bacon!
